Teaching the Boat Smart course to 6th graders at The Sanibel School
Hands-on learning in action — an instructor guides students through a sailing demonstration during the Boat Smart course.
Volunteers distribute materials as 6th graders wrap up another successful session of the Boat Smart program.
"How to Boat Smart" introduces students to local waters from the perspective of a boat owner, covering a broad range of topics. The course is so comprehensive that in its final session, students have the opportunity to take the Florida Safe Boating Exam and earn a Florida Safe Boating Certificate — a legal requirement for boat operators born after January 1, 1988.
How to Boat Smart has been part of The Sanibel School Extended Learning Program for nearly twenty years and is one of the Sanibel Captiva Boating Club's legacy programs — educating and instilling safe boating habits in captains of all ages.
A legacy program dedicated to building the next generation of safe, skilled, and confident boaters on the waters of Sanibel-Captiva.
